Over two-thirds of the 5,53,440 Indian students studying abroad are located in the United States, Canada, and Australia, according to official statistics. According to the statistics, there are 86 different countries where Indian students are enrolled at the present time, with 26 of those countries having fewer than 100 Indian students each. More than 52,000 Indian students are now studying in various European nations. There are around 5.53 lakh Indian students studying in 86 different countries, according to data supplied by the government. Two-thirds of that total originates from the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Disparities exist between official counts of students in the US and Canada and those officially reported by those countries. It’s common knowledge that many students from India travel to other countries to further their education. While information about the number of Indian students studying in the United States, Canada, and other countries is publicly available, no equivalent information exists for students studying in other countries. The number of Indian students studying abroad has been made public by the government after it received data from various diplomatic posts. According to official statistics, there are over 5.53 million Indian students studying in 86 different countries.
The 86 Countries That Have Indian Students
According to official statistics, there are currently Indian students studying in 86 different countries throughout the world. There are 36 Asians, 32 Europeans, 8 Africans, 6 South Americans, 2 North Americans, and 2 Australians among them. North America is home to more than half of India’s international students. There are almost 90,000 Indian students now enrolled in universities across Asia and Australia. There are just 52116 Indian students studying in 32 European nations. Indian students make up over half of all international students in the United States and Canada.
For example, out of a total of 553440 Indian students studying abroad, 206708 are enrolled in a university in the United States. Australia comes in at number three on the list, with 63,283 pupils, behind only Canada (where an estimated 100,000 students are enrolled). Two-thirds of all Indian students studying abroad are concentrated in just these three nations. You should know that the years 2015 and 2016 are used for the USA and UK statistics.
A total of 26 countries have less than 100 pupils
26 of the 86 nations have fewer than 100 Indian students, while 20 have between 100 and 500. The number of pupils in ten additional nations ranges from 500 to 1000. Three nations have over 50,000 pupils apiece, while five others have between 10,000 and 50,000. Only two Asian nations host more than 10,000 Indian students each: China and Bahrain. While Uzbekistan, Greece, and Bosnia all have two students apiece, Serbia and Mongolia each have only one.
Inconsistencies in data between countries
There is a discrepancy between the numbers the MEA has disclosed and those other nations have made public. The US government estimates that there are 1.66 million Indian students in the US in 2015–16, whereas the MEA estimates that there are 2.06 million. Despite the fact that the MEA reports 100,000 Indian students in Canada, data from a Canadian NGO suggests that there are only 50,000. MEA is responsible for clarifying this inconsistency.
