H-1B Visas for Occupations of a Specialty
The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant visa that gives foreign nationals the opportunity to temporarily work in jobs requiring a high level of expertise. To be eligible for an H-1B visa, prospective immigrants must demonstrate that they possess both specialised expertise and a bachelor’s degree or higher, or its equivalent. The majority of jobs that qualify for the H-1B visa are in specialised sectors like science, engineering, and computer technology.
E-1 and E-2 Trader and Investor in Treaties
The E-1 visa, also known as the treaty trader visa, is reserved for immigrants who originate from nations that have established a treaty of commerce with the United States. The number of commodities that are traded between the applicant’s home country and the United States must be considered “substantial.” Additionally, immigrants who are from countries that have a trade treaty with the United States are eligible to apply for an E-2 visa. They must have already invested a “significant” amount of capital in a U.S. business, or they must be actively engaged in the process of investing such an amount.
L-1 Intracompany Transferee Visa
The L-1 visa is another type of nonimmigrant visa that is issued to individuals who are currently employed in a country other than the United States but will soon begin working in the United States. It is also possible for a foreign corporation to send an executive or manager to the United States using this visa in order to set up an office in the United States. Even while these visas will let you remain in the United States for a certain amount of time, they will not let you stay there permanently. Obtaining a Green Card can be required of you if you want to extend your stay in the United States.
Optional Practical Training, or OPT for short.
Students who have just graduated and are in possession of an F-1 Visa have the opportunity to participate in something called optional practical training (OPT). Your employment during your optional practical training (OPT) must be directly relevant to the field in which you are currently enrolled as an F-1 student. Students who meet the requirements can submit a request to get job permission for optional practical training for up to a year. You are eligible to apply for a two-year extension of your optional practical training (OPT) if your degree is in a particular STEM subject (STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, & mathematics).
