Studying abroad in Australia is quite popular. The majority of students who want to study abroad choose to choose Australia as their first location. In the English-speaking world, Australia is home to the third-highest number of overseas students after the United States and the United Kingdom. 35 new Australian institutions have been included in the most recent QS World University Rankings. In addition, seven Australian universities are ranked in the world’s top 100, while another 11 are ranked in the top 300. Here are the top five in the United States.
Queensland University (UQ)

UNSW (University of New South Wales)
Since its founding in 1949, the University of New South Wales (UNSW, Sydney) has produced more billionaires than any other Australian institution of higher learning, moving up four spots to 43rd on the global rankings. University of New South Wales Sydney is aiming to become “Australia’s global university” by 2025 by partnering with over 200 universities across the world.
The Sydney University
The Institution of Sydney, which was founded in 1850 and will be ranked 42nd in the world by 2020, is the country’s first and oldest university. Its neo-gothic structures, which currently educate about 60,000 students, have become the university’s campus a local landmark. The institution, which is also a member of the Group of Eight, offers the widest choice of programmes of any in Australia.
The Melbourne University
Australia’s second oldest university, the prestigious University of Melbourne, ranked 38th this year, an increase of three spots from the previous year. Around 47,000 students are enrolled, with more than 12,000 of them coming from outside Australia. The university has also produced the most Nobel Prize winners of any Australian institution, with nine.
Australian National University (ANU)
The Australian National University (ANU) is Australia’s highest-ranked institution, coming in at number 29 on the global university rankings. Australia’s sole parliament-created institution, the Australian National University (ANU), is located in Canberra. Two of Australia’s prime ministers are former students.
