For this programme, candidates who are interested in developing their skills in doing independent academic research while also having practical experience in teaching, leadership, and learning.
An important goal of our programme is the development of interdisciplinary and rigorous researchers who can improve educational practices, policies, and frameworks. It is expected that education research would demand PhD graduates who are prepared to cooperate with policymakers and educators, families and communities to improve present education practices and policies.
Elective courses in EDS and complementary coursework in other UCSD departments, as well as research apprenticeships with EDS faculty, allow students enrolled in the programme to broaden and deepen their understanding of a wide range of disciplines, ideas, and epistemologies.
